The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially smashed an elite international smuggling ring operating out of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), arresting an active Aviation Security (AVSEC) officer and his accomplices over a desperate attempt to illegally export unprocessed gold bars worth over N4.4 billion.
In a comprehensive corporate statement published on its official digital platforms on Friday, June 12, 2026, the anti-graft agency confirmed that the prime suspect, AVSEC Inspector Ali Baffa, was intercepted during a meticulous, intelligence-led routine surveillance operation executed on Thursday at the terminal.
Investigators discovered that Baffa had expertly wrapped and concealed a staggering 22.2 kilogrammes of pure, unprocessed gold bars inside his operational uniform trousers.
