The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has officially cleared the management of Food & Food Integrated Company Limited, the manufacturers of the popular BON Bread brand, of any regulatory violations.
The formal clearance follows a rigorous scientific investigation launched by the apex regulatory agency to address widespread public anxiety on social media.
The online panic began on April 13, 2026, when a consumer published a viral post alleging that a specific loaf of commercial bread had miraculously remained completely free from mold or spoilage despite sitting on a shelf for over two months.
In an official public brief issued on Sunday, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, explained that the agency immediately dispatched an enforcement team to inspect the company’s ultra-modern bakery facility located in Abuja.

Food samples were randomly drawn directly from both the production floor and open retail markets to undergo comprehensive laboratory analysis.
The laboratory test results confirmed that the product's extended freshness was not caused by toxic additives, but rather by the correct usage of calcium propionate—an internationally approved food preservative used to prevent mold growth. Addressing the test findings, Professor Adeyeye stated:
“Findings revealed that the bread contained calcium propionate, an approved preservative commonly used in bread production, within the permissible limits specified by the Codex Alimentarius.
Laboratory analysis further confirmed that the bread samples did not contain objectionable substances, including bromate or non-nutritive sweeteners.”
The NAFDAC boss further revealed that the manufacturing firm has maintained an exemplary compliance track record since its inception in 2006, passing all mandatory factory audits and product license renewals over the past two decades without a single penalty, warning letter, or product recall incident.
Assuring Nigerian consumers that BON Bread is fully wholesome and safe for household consumption, Professor Adeyeye encouraged the public to continue reporting any genuine product quality concerns to the nearest NAFDAC office nationwide rather than spreading unscientific panic online.
