The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reassured citizens that Nigeria is completely free from the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), confirming that no active or suspected cases have been recorded anywhere within the country's borders.
The national medical clarification was contained in an official public health advisory released on Sunday by the Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris.
The strategic alert became necessary following a sudden resurgence of the aggressive hemorrhagic fever in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and a recently documented spillover case into neighboring Uganda.
Dr. Idris stated that while there is absolutely no cause for panic, the agency has proactively activated its national emergency surveillance protocols.

The NCDC is currently collaborating with the Port Health Service under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to guarantee watertight screening at all international airports, seaports, and land borders. In the public health advisory, Dr. Idris noted:
“Nigeria currently has no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease. Healthcare workers are advised to maintain a high index of suspicion for EVD in patients presenting with compatible symptoms and relevant travel or exposure history.”
The medical development coincides with a declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO), which officially labeled the Congolese outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
The epidemic has already claimed over 88 lives out of 336 suspected infections, with fears multiplying after health labs confirmed a positive case in the heavily populated eastern DRC city of Goma—an area currently controlled by the M23 militia group.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed grave concerns over the lack of a proven vaccine for this specific strain but clarified that it does not yet constitute a full global pandemic emergency.
Meanwhile, the NCDC has strongly urged Nigerians to avoid spreading unverified rumors online, while emphasizing the importance of basic preventative habits, such as regular handwashing and avoiding direct contact with the bodily fluids of sick individuals.
