A wave of grief and shock has gripped two farming communities within the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State following two separate weekend attacks that left three females dead, including two mothers and a young daughter.
The first gruesome incident occurred around 3:10 pm on Saturday in Nkporogwu, a village located within the Ukehe community.
According to local sources, 40-year-old Anikwe Onyebuchi attacked and beheaded his 60-year-old mother, Anikwe Felicia, using a sharp cutlass.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that a domestic dispute erupted after the suspect returned home and demanded a meal, which his elderly mother was unable to immediately provide.
The altercation quickly escalated into violence, leaving the victim lifeless in a pool of blood.

A viral video of the immediate aftermath captured distraught natives lamenting the tragic incident before an angry mob gathered, retrieved the suspect, and beat him with dangerous objects.
In a second, equally horrific incident at the nearby Agu-Ekwegbe community, another suspect identified as Joshua Eze allegedly used a cutlass to sever the heads of his biological sister, Nwabuche Eze, and her young daughter, Favour Eze.
Investigating police operatives discovered that the suspect had buried the two victims in a shallow grave alongside a dead white cock, a discovery that strongly points toward ritualistic motivations.
The Enugu State Police Command has officially confirmed both incidents and launched a deep investigation.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that while the prompt intervention of law enforcement officers saved the first suspect, Anikwe Onyebuchi, from being lynched by an angry mob, the second suspect was not as fortunate. DSP Ndukwe stated:
“The suspect (Anikwe) was rescued and rearrested from an angry mob that had severely beaten him and was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The second suspect (Eze) was unlucky, stressing that he died at the hospital after he was rescued from an angry mob that had beaten him to stupor. His corpse was equally deposited in the mortuary.”
The command noted that the body of Mrs. Anikwe and her severed head have been recovered and deposited in a local mortuary for a comprehensive autopsy.
Reacting to the double tragedy, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, strongly condemned the barbaric killings and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) to immediately take over the cases.
CP Giwa urged members of the public to strictly avoid resorting to jungle justice or taking the law into their own hands, regardless of the provocation, advising them instead to hand over criminal suspects to lawful authorities for proper prosecution.
