Nollywood actress and movie producer, Sandra Okunzuwa, has stirred up conversations within the Nigerian entertainment scene by claiming that YouTube movie producers pay actors significantly better than traditional cinema productions.
Speaking during a recent guest appearance on the popular BTS Reality podcast, Okunzuwa noted that the historical narrative of actors receiving poor compensation in Nigeria is changing rapidly due to online platforms.
She pointed out that digital streaming platforms, especially YouTube, have democratized the financial landscape of filmmaking, giving creators immediate returns that are shared directly with high-profile talent.

According to her, top-tier actors can now comfortably demand millions of Naira for brief production schedules.
According to a industry breakdown online reports, Okunzuwa detailed the shifting market dynamics that have made modern Nollywood stars premium assets for independent digital creators.
“Nollywood actors are now very expensive. When people say they don’t pay actors well, maybe that was the case when it was just cinema, Netflix and others," Okunzuwa explained. "But now, actors on YouTube are paid highly. Some of them charge N4 million to N5 million for four-day shoot.”
She concluded her assessment by explicitly stating that the financial rewards available in the digital space have outpaced the traditional box office structure.
“Youtube pays actors better than cinema movies,” she asserted.
This shift in funding has encouraged a massive influx of top-tier talent into online content creation, resulting in higher production quality, quicker project turnarounds, and a highly competitive local entertainment ecosystem.
