The United Kingdom Government has updated its guidance on financial requirements for Student and Child Student visa applicants, exempting nationals of only three African countries—Botswana, Mauritius, and Tunisia—from submitting proof of funds upfront during applications.
Other top African student source countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, remain subject to full financial documentation requirements.
Under the updated framework, applicants studying in London must demonstrate £1,529 per month in living expenses (up to 9 months), while those studying outside London must show £1,171 monthly.
The UK authorities reiterated that funds must be held in acceptable accounts for at least 28 consecutive days, excluding cryptocurrencies, overdrafts, or stocks.
"Applicants from listed exempt countries must still meet financial requirements, but decision-makers may request proof later during evaluation."
