The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has extended an official invitation to social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, requesting evidence to support allegations he made against police personnel.
Speaking as a panelist at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Otse alleged that police officers manning highway checkpoints identify wealthy travelers and relay their information to kidnappers.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu, the police rejected the claims as unsubstantiated and damaging to security personnel who confront violent crime daily.
The Force urged Otse to present any concrete proof to the Force Criminal Investigation Department for immediate investigation, warning that unverified allegations demoralize officers on duty.
"Allegations of this gravity demand a corresponding standard of evidence, and that standard has not yet been met.
