Mohbad: United Advocates Group Calls on Lagos CP to Replace Previous Investigators

Civil advocacy organization United Advocates Group (UAG) has called on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, to replace the officers currently assigned to the re-investigation into the death of Afrobeats singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The group emphasized that removing officers involved in the initial probe is essential to ensuring an independent, credible, and transparent outcome.

In a statement issued by legal adviser Oluwatosin Afolabi, the UAG highlighted that the re-investigation initiated under the former Inspector-General of Police remains unresolved after being transferred back to the Lagos State Police Command.

The advocacy group cited previous investigative lapses, including an officer's failure to honour a Coroner's Court subpoena and conflicting statements regarding case assignments, warning that further delays by the original team risk deepening public distrust following controversies surrounding the singer's September 2023 passing.

"The officers involved in the earlier investigation should not review the same issues in order to preserve independence and credibility. We urge the Commissioner of Police to intervene immediately." — Oluwatosin Afolabi, Legal Adviser to UAG
