Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is making major national political news following public statements regarding state administrative salaries and civil service welfare.
Speaking in Asaba during the official commissioning of 12 four-bedroom duplexes and presentation of official vehicles to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, Governor Oborevwori revealed that his official monthly salary as governor is ₦503,000, which is significantly lower than the ₦900,000earned by Permanent Secretaries and the ₦1,000,000 earned by the Head of Service.
He explained that his administration intentionally increased the salary scale for Permanent Secretaries after they raised concerns about earning almost the same as civil service Directors.
The disclosure captured widespread media attention, with citizens praising the state's prioritization of permanent civil servants. Governor Oborevwori also confirmed that Delta State has fully implemented the new national minimum wage and approved a mandatory 13th-month salary for state workers starting December 2026, which will be backed by executive legislation.
