Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Edo State Command have arrested five suspects and destroyed a 0.496-hectare cannabis plantation during targeted anti-narcotic operations across the state.
The Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed that the raids demonstrate the agency's resolve to combat drug abuse and dismantle illegal drug supply chains.
The operations began in the Ukaro Forest of Owan West Local Government Area, where officers apprehended three suspects—Imohimi Ugbeje, Usihoro Saturday, and Bala Sunday—and destroyed a cannabis farm with an estimated yield of over 1,240 kilograms.
Subsequent raids targeted a warehouse in Ekpoma, recovering codeine cough syrup, tramadol, Rohypnol, and Danabol tablets, as well as a Benin City location where two suspects, Zege Japhet and Ifeanyi Ogashe, were caught with "Canadian Loud" synthetic cannabis.
Speaking at the Scout Association of Nigeria Youth Camp in Benin City, Ofoyeju urged young people to avoid drug misuse and engage in constructive community activities.
