Nigerian Man Jailed in the UK After Raping One Woman and Assaulting Another While on Bail

A 30-year-old Nigerian national, Olukanyinsola Odebode, has been handed a 12-year extended sentence at Swansea Crown Court in the United Kingdom after being convicted of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.

The offences occurred between June 2024 and September 2025 across the Gwent and Dyfed-Powys police areas, with the second attack taking place while Odebode was out on bail.

During the sentencing proceedings, prosecuting counsel Mark Wyeth KC noted that Odebode degraded his victims and presented a severe ongoing risk to women, supported by a probation assessment citing his lack of insight into his actions.

Presiding Judge Huw Rees ordered an extended sentence comprising nine years in custody—with mandatory service of two-thirds before parole eligibility—followed by three years on licence, alongside lifetime registration on the sex offender register.

"Based on everything I have heard about you at trial and read about you in reports, I have come to the conclusion that you are a sexually precocious person...

An extended sentence is necessary to address the risk you pose." — Judge Huw Rees, Swansea Crown Court
