The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its tactical campaign against infrastructural sabotage and violent street syndicates, netting three suspected members of the notorious Vikings Confraternity alongside a rogue private security guard across separate intelligence-led raids.
According to situational reports released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the first tactical breakthrough materialized when operational teams swooped on a residential property located off Abak Road in the state capital, Uyo.
The building had been flagged by undercover operatives as a highly active logistics nest for illicit substance abuse and cult-related assignments.
During the sudden raid, officers arrested three suspects identified as Dick Udofia, Emem Charles, and Ubong Matthew—all confirmed students of an undisclosed polytechnic institution within the region.
Law enforcement recovered substantial quantities of high-potency methamphetamine, colloquially referred to as "ice," alongside compressed packages of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp).
"The suspects, who are students of a certain polytechnic, whose name is withheld, are currently assisting the police with useful information. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects... Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects admitted being members of the Vikings Confraternity," PPRO Timfon John disclosed.
In a separate enforcement operation, police detectives arrested a 32-year-old security personnel, Joshua Akpan, linked to an organized cable-vandalism ring specializing in stripping vital electrical components from factories, public infrastructure, and religious institutions.
Executing a formal search warrant at Akpan's private residence, teams retrieved cut-to-size armoured cables, specialized iron-cutting blades, hammers, and industrial pliers.
During formal interrogation, the suspect confessed to systematically vandalizing and stealing core power installations directly from a prominent Catholic cathedral where he was actively employed to provide protective security. Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, commended the tactical units for their swift containment, reiterating that the command will continue utilizing high-grade intelligence networks to insulate public assets and break down urban drug circles.
