The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has un-frozen the official bank accounts of the Osun State Government, ending weeks of financial restrictions placed on state funds.
The accounts, domiciled at First Bank of Nigeria and Zenith Bank, had been subjected to a "Post No Debit" restriction on August 5 amid an ongoing anti-graft investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding ₦11 billion in Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds, and Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations.
The restrictions drew widespread criticism from political observers who framed the move as an attempt to undermine Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the state election.
Following the victory of Governor Adeleke at the polls, President Bola Tinubu described the commission's restrictions as embarrassing and ordered the immediate lifting of the freeze order.
Presidential Media Aide Temitope Ajayi confirmed that the lien had been removed in compliance with the directive, prompting Governor Adeleke to instruct the State Attorney-General to withdraw pending legal action against the anti-graft agency.
"The lien has been lifted. EFCC cannot ignore the presidential order. I can confirm to you that it was done immediately." — Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President
