El-Rufai Sues ICPC for N10 Billion Over Alleged Fundamental Rights Violations

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has filed a N10 billion fundamental rights suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The lawsuit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1852/2026, alleges that the anti-graft agency unlawfully barred his wife, Aichatou Asabe, and son, Abba El-Rufai, from delivering meals, medication, and essential care to him while in detention.

The legal filing names the ICPC, its Chairman, and the Attorney-General of the Federation as respondents. Filed through defense counsel Ubong Akpan, the suit seeks nine judicial declarations establishing that El-Rufai's constitutional rights under Sections 34 and 37 of the 1999 Constitution remain enforceable despite his detention.
