Why is Mike Ozekhome Trending?

High-profile human rights activist and constitutional lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, is dominating national legal headlines following a shocking announcement by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) stripping him temporarily of his elite professional rank.

The legal bombshell is trending with immense velocity because the LPPC officially approved the immediate suspension of Ozekhome from the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

The decision, finalized during the committee's 173rd General Meeting presided over by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and LPPC Secretary, Kabir Akanbi, was executed pursuant to Paragraph 26(6) of the SAN Conferment Guidelines.

The regulatory body explicitly ordered Ozekhome to strictly refrain from parading himself, presenting himself, or appearing in any judicial court as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria pending the formal determination of full disciplinary proceedings against him.

The sudden downfall of the legal titan is directly tied to a highly contentious, ongoing criminal investigation regarding an international asset battle.

Ozekhome is currently facing a serious 12-count criminal charge alongside Ponfa Useni—son of the former FCT Minister, Jeremiah Useni—over allegations of utilizing a forged Nigerian passport to secure advantage in a fiercely disputed, multi-million pound luxury property dispute located in the United Kingdom.

The LPPC emphasized that the suspension was mandatory to protect the prestige, dignity, and public confidence of the SAN rank while its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee reviews the case. Legal practitioners and the public are heavily debating the massive systemic implications of the suspension on his active high-profile cases across the federation.
