Tension has gripped parts of Osun State following the brutal assassination of Olalekan Ajagungbade, popularly known as "Emir," a prominent political ally of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Ajagungbade was reportedly lured to a motor park in Ile-Ife under the guise of attending a reconciliation meeting. Upon his arrival, unidentified assailants shot him in the head at point-blank range.
Reports indicate that the deceased was actively attempting to wrestle control of the state's commercial motor parks from the current leader of the commercial drivers' union, Nurudeen Alowonle.
The fatal shooting immediately triggered widespread panic across transportation hubs in the state.
Reacting swiftly to the murder, Governor Ademola Adeleke issued a stern directive to the Osun State Police Command to track down, arrest, and prosecute all individuals connected to the killing.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor ordered all warring driver factions to immediately vacate all motor parks statewide to prevent reprisals and restore public order.
To resolve the recurring transport union clashes, Governor Adeleke announced plans to sign an Executive Order establishing a formal Park Management System.
Security agencies have been deployed across key parks to ensure compliance, maintain law and order, and safeguard civilian lives amidst heightened political and union friction.
