Amid controversy and public outcry, respected human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has made direct contact with the EFCC, demanding the immediate release of detained Nigerian social critic VeryDarkMan.

The update came from Deji Adeyanju, the activist’s counsel, who shared on social media that Falana had made several calls to the EFCC, challenging what he described as an unlawful arrest and detention.

“Falana has spoken up and reached out multiple times,” Adeyanju posted on X (formerly Twitter). This revelation contrasts his earlier criticism, where he accused Falana of remaining silent while VeryDarkMan remained in custody.

The twist in this case is especially notable given that Falana’s family currently has a N1 billion lawsuit against VeryDarkMan. The lawsuit stems from a leaked voice note allegedly implicating Falz, Falana’s son, in a bribery claim made by controversial figure Bobrisky.

In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly claimed Falz offered to secure a presidential pardon through his father for ₦10 million — a claim the Falana family strongly denies.

Despite the legal tension, Falana’s intervention signals his unwavering stance on civil liberties and the rule of law — even for critics.

VeryDarkMan’s arrest by the EFCC has sparked protests and heated online discussions about freedom of speech in Nigeria.
