President Donald Trump Cancels Targeted Airstrikes Following Top-Level Iranian Talks

In a stunning, late-night diplomatic breakthrough, United States President Donald Trump announced on Thursday, June 11, 2026, that he has officially cancelled a highly anticipated schedule of intensive military bombings and surgical airstrikes targeted against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Taking to his Truth Social platform, Trump revealed that the dramatic de-escalation directive was issued at the final hour after formal, direct diplomatic discussions had successfully advanced to the highest echelons of Iranian leadership and received definitive executive approval.

“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have… cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” Trump stated, adding that the specific time and location for a permanent peace accord signing ceremony would be disclosed shortly.

The rapid geopolitical resolution materialized just hours after the Iranian parliamentary speaker and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, had issued a grim, public warning via international media, asserting that the White House risked wading into an "endless, years-long quagmire" of regional attrition and exploding energy markets.

The brief but brutal war, which originally erupted on February 28 with a barrage of joint US-Israeli offensive strikes on Iranian military installations, had been temporarily frozen under an uneasy April truce before talks stalled over control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Prior to the last-minute cancellation, the Pentagon had threatened to seize Kharg Island—Iran's largest offshore crude export terminal—sparking a stern warning from General Ali Abdollahi of Iran's central military headquarters.

The high-stakes conflict has severely destabilized international oil markets, prompting the World Bank to downgrade its global economic growth forecast for 2026 to a pandemic-low of 2.5%, highlighting the profound economic relief promised by this sudden diplomatic pause.
