In a major political realignment ahead of the upcoming national electoral cycle, former Ogun Central Senator and daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, has officially resigned her membership from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a detailed resignation letter dated May 31, 2026, and made public to news correspondents on Monday, June 8, 2026, the US-based Associate Professor of Epidemiology addressed the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, citing persistent systemic disrespect, institutional exclusion, and unfair treatment by the state party leadership as the core reasons for her sudden departure.
Prof. Obasanjo heavily criticized the local consensus mechanism that produced Senator Solomon Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) as the party’s official governorship candidate, labeling the administrative process completely inconsistent with the APC’s standard internal guidelines.

She revealed that despite her open commitment to back any unified party choice, she was entirely locked out of consultations, while her loyal supporters were violently blocked from entering the candidate unveiling venue and subjected to open intimidation.
The former health commissioner noted that although she privately and publicly congratulated Senator Adeola, the senator failed to address critical strategic requests raised by her constituency over two months ago.
Stating that she refuses to remain where she is actively unwelcomed, Obasanjo expressed parting gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and senatorial leader Chief Soremi for their past institutional courtesies.
