23-Year-Old Favour Ofili Becomes Africa's Fastest 200m Sprinter in Texas Blaster

Nigerian track and field athletes established global dominance at the USATF Lone Star Grand Prix in Texas, United States, with sprinters Favour Ofili and Ella Onojuvwevwo delivering world-class performances in their respective events.

US-based speed sensation Favour Ofili officially supplanted her close friend and training partner, Rosemary Chukwuma, to become Africa's fastest woman in the 200-meter event so far this year.

Ofili clocked a brilliant season's best of 22.15 seconds to take third place in a high-octane race won by reigning Olympic champion Gabby Thomas in a world-leading 21.70 seconds.

Ofili’s performance eclipses Chukwuma's previous continental lead of 22.42 seconds set in April, positioning the Paris 2024 Olympic finalist perfectly ahead of the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games.
