Commissioner Hope Urunwa Okafor Warns Residents Against Spreading Social Media Fake News

The Ebonyi State Police Command has officially arrested a local resident identified as Nwali Nwibo for maliciously fabricating and circulating highly sensitive false information claiming that armed bandits and radical herdsmen had launched a bloody invasion of the Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area.

The structural arrest followed a thorough, intelligence-led investigation conducted by tactical cyber-units after the viral alarm gained massive traction across digital networks on Thursday, generating severe panic, chaos, and institutional anxiety among local families and farmers.

Confirming the development in a press briefing from Abakaliki, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Joshua Ukandu, revealed that the command's emergency field assessments established that the community faced absolutely zero operational security threats, proving Nwibo's reports were entirely fraudulent.

Reacting strongly to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, issued an uncompromising public warning to all social media users, bloggers, and citizens regarding the legal implications of digital fearmongering.

CP Okafor maintained that the dissemination of unverified, incendiary reports actively undermines public confidence and strains law enforcement resources.

She reiterated the command's absolute commitment to identifying, tracking, and prosecuting malicious purveyors of fake news under the full weight of cybercrime legislation, urging residents to rely strictly on official, verified state security channels before forwarding communal alarms.
