The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has busted a deeply disturbing case of domestic captivity and child disappearance in Abuja, rescuing a 36-year-old woman, Grace Aniekuoku, who had been chained inside a locked room by her biological brother for over a year and four months.
While briefing journalists on Monday, June 15, 2026, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, described the rescue location as one of the most dehumanizing, heartbreaking crime scenes his officers had ever encountered in their law enforcement careers.
Acting on a critical distress call received on June 12, 2026, CP Sanusi dispatched a tactical team of detectives from the Katampe Divisional Police Headquarters to the suspect’s residence.
Upon arrival, the suspect, identified as Chinedu Aniekuoku, aggressively blocked the officers from entering the building.
In response, the police leadership officially ordered the enforcement team to invoke the statutory police powers of "ingress and liberation," allowing them to forcefully break down the entry structures to rescue the citizen.
“The victim was seen in a highly dehumanising condition, where she had stayed for this long in her own faeces and excreta," CP Ahmed Sanusi revealed in a grim statement.
"She eats there, defecates there — nobody cleans it, nobody cares about her welfare. Her hair was so grown, like a forest. She became so emaciated that a camera stand is thicker than her neck. We just pray that she survives to tell us the story.”
Preliminary police interrogations have exposed a chilling criminal motive behind the prolonged solitary confinement. Detectives established that about two years ago, Chinedu forcefully abducted the victim's young son and moved him to an undisclosed location.
He subsequently locked up his sister in chains to completely silence her and prevent her from raising public alarm or asking questions regarding the whereabouts of the child, whom the police suspect may have been tragically trafficked or used for ritual purposes.
The emaciated survivor was immediately rushed to a federal medical facility, where doctors are battling to stabilize her health.
Meanwhile, CP Sanusi assured the public that a rigorous inter-agency search is underway to track down the missing child, vowing that the suspect will face the full weight of criminal prosecution immediately after forensic investigations wrap up.
