Ambassador-Designate Reno Omokri Rejects Davido's 'Bingo' Insult Over World Cup Spat

Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has officially fired back at Afrobeat international megastar Davido, describing the singer's recent derogatory social media insults against his person as deeply "shocking" and utterly beneath an artist of his global standing.

The intense digital friction ignited after Davido took to his verified social media handles to mock the former presidential media aide, tagging him as "Umu Bingo" and a "fowl" in a trending post that quickly sent shockwaves across the Nigerian entertainment and political landscapes.

The public fallout stems directly from an executive delay in Omokri’s resumption of diplomatic duties in Mexico, which he openly attributed to the ongoing global sports fiesta.

However, providing deeper context to the bad blood on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Omokri shared screenshots of the insult on his Instagram page, asserting that Davido’s real anger blossomed after Omokri publicly criticized the singer's choice of attire during a high-profile performance at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Davido had worn a customized jacket boldly inscribed with the names of the recently abducted Oyo State nursery and primary school children.

“Dear Mr. David Adeleke AKA Davido, thank you for your feedback. I was rather surprised by your response to my post. Most shocking is your insult," Reno Omokri penned down in his formal public rejoinder. "Coming to insult me on my Instagram profile with such vulgar words should be beneath you.

Yes, I’m aware that you were upset at my appeal to you not to use an international platform, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to give publicity to bandits and terrorists. I am also aware that Peter Obi praised you for doing that, which may have made you feel compelled to defend him.”

Omokri stoutly maintained that while Davido's underlying intentions to pressure the government might have been pure, the practical consequence of amplifying the mass kidnapping on a massive international broadcasting stage inadvertently serves the psychological warfare goals of the terrorists, helping them spread widespread fear and boost illicit fundraising.

The diplomat further twisted the knife by comparing Davido's activism to American streaming sensation IShowSpeed, who spent his time at the same global tournament actively marketing Nigeria's brand equity by proudly donning the national football jersey and passionately speaking well of the country.
