The presidency has issued a fierce, uncompromising warning to armed bandits and terror syndicates nationwide, declaring that the Nigerian State will never bow to criminal extortion or swap detained insurgents in exchange for hostages.
The stern executive declaration followed confirmation that the bullet-riddled, stress-compromised body of the late former spokesman of the Nigerian Army, retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, was finally handed over to the Katsina State Government on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Shockingly, the terrorists released his abducted wife, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, alive alongside the general’s remains.
The deceased officer's body is currently being transported to Kaduna State for a solemn military burial.
Major General Rabe and his wife were violently ambushed on May 30, 2026, near Zakin Baure village along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu, confirmed that despite extensive, round-the-clock rescue coordination by joint military assets, the retired General succumbed to extreme health complications brought on by diabetes and acute hypertension while trapped in the harsh forest camp.
Reacting to the tragic culmination via an official state brief signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu expressed deep institutional shock and sorrow over the General's demise, while sending profound condolences to the grieving family and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“While the terrorists have done their worst, the President wants them to know that the government will never bow to their demand to release their members held by our security agencies," the presidency stated definitively.
"As I said on June 12, bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror should now surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian state. These windows of surrender will not remain open forever. And no mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians.”
