Popular Nigerian content creator, streamer, and music enthusiast, Carter Efe, has opened up about his rocky one-sided relationship with Afrobeats global icon Wizkid, revealing that despite his deep admiration for the musician's artistry, he takes issue with his personal attitude.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with BBC Pidgin on Monday, the digital entertainer was open about his long-standing adoration for Wizkid’s unique sound, creative recording style, and massive contribution to the global exportation of contemporary Nigerian music.
However, Efe quickly shifted ground to express his lingering disappointment regarding the lack of personal reciprocity from the music star over the years.
The root of Carter Efe's emotional grievance goes back to his breakout 2022 hit single titled “Machala,” an upbeat record he conceptualized and released alongside singer Berri Tiga as a passionate tribute to Wizkid.

Although the viral track dominated local streaming charts and boosted Efe's profile in the entertainment industry, Wizkid chose to completely ignore the record publicly.
Reflecting on the unreturned affection during his media appearance, Efe stated:
“My relationship with him? I love Wizkid. I won’t lie. I love Wizkid. I love his craft, man. But I have issues with his personality. I showed that guy love, he didn’t show me love. But I still love his music and style.”
The content creator emphasized that his primary motivation for recording the viral anthem was never centered on commercial gain, royalties, or chasing cheap social media clout.
Instead, it was an authentic nod of respect toward an artist he deeply rated.
Efe concluded the chat by stating that while he has made peace with the fact that his musical idol may never acknowledge him, he will not pretend that the singer’s cold personality is endearing to his day-to-one supporters who continuously wave his banner across global platforms.
