Academic activities came to a total halt in Ogbomoso on Monday as public school teachers abandoned their classrooms to stage a massive peaceful protest.
The demonstration was sparked by the recent coordinated abduction of educators and pupils in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, which tragically resulted in the extrajudicial killing of one teacher.
The protesting educators marched through major streets before converging on the Post-Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) zonal office in the town.
Bearing placards with various inscriptions, the demonstrators demanded that the government immediately step up field intelligence operations to rescue their colleagues and students who are still trapped in the forests.

The teachers also demanded the immediate deployment of permanent security personnel around vulnerable learning institutions across the state.
Following a high-level emergency security meeting on Sunday, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, officially confirmed the heartbreaking development.
Governor Makinde revealed that seven teachers and an unconfirmed number of young pupils were initially carried off during the Friday raid, confirming that the terrorists have already executed one of the hostages. Addressing the press, Governor Makinde stated:
“What we know right now is that seven teachers were abducted. Unfortunately, we received a video this morning indicating that one of the teachers, understood to be the Mathematics teacher, was killed by the terrorists. Our prayers are with the family.
We just finished a review of the security situation in the local government area where the abduction took place.”
The governor extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased educator and expressed deep solidarity with members of the joint tactical rescue team.
The team—comprising Nigerian Army troops, Amotekun Corps operatives, and local hunters—encountered buried Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted along the extraction tracks by the fleeing terrorists during a weekend rescue operation.
Governor Makinde reassured the public that the wounded security personnel are responding positively to clinical treatment at an undisclosed medical facility, adding that the state government has taken full responsibility for their healthcare bills.
He appealed to residents, community leaders, and religious bodies to remain perfectly calm, stating that both kinetic and non-kinetic strategy lines have been activated to secure the safe return of the remaining captives without further loss of life.
