The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd), has called on Nigerians to aggressively resist a growing, toxic pop culture that glamorizes the use of illicit substances as an acceptable lifestyle choice.
The anti-narcotics boss emphasized that the romanticization of narcotics in mainstream entertainment is heavily derailing young minds across the federation.
Marwa made the passionate call in Abuja during the official commissioning ceremony of the anti-drug agency's newly established broadcast station, Clean Beat 91.5FM.
The radio station is designed to serve as a strategic national orientation weapon to replace drug-centered media narratives with healthy lifestyle alternatives.

The NDLEA boss explained that while direct field enforcement wins immediate physical battles, consistent education and structural prevention remain the ultimate keys to winning the long-term war against addiction.
He noted that true victory requires dismantling the high demand for illicit substances and tackling the baseline ignorance that lures vulnerable teenagers into drug networks.
"We will counter the toxic pop culture that glamorizes drug abuse by replacing it with a vibrant alternative culture that celebrates sobriety, showcases real stories of recovery, and provides accurate, life-saving information," Marwa stated during his inaugural broadcast address.
The specialized radio project received immense commendation from international and local regulatory bodies.
In his goodwill address, the United Nations Country Representative, Mr. Cheikh Ousmane Touré, who was represented by Dr. Akanidomo Ibanga, praised the agency for complementing hard enforcement with community dialogue.
Similarly, the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Charles Ebuebu, described the new station as an invaluable platform for driving behavioral change and long-term youth transformation across Nigerian communities.
