The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has broken his silence regarding the sudden withdrawal of the incumbent Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial race.
Speaking during an emergency media briefing on Monday, May 25, 2026, following a routine structural oversight inspection of active highway construction projects within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Wike linked the unexpected move to a high-profile, pre-negotiated political peace settlement aimed at restoring institutional stability to the oil-rich state.
According to the Minister, Fubara’s withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries was a mandatory, pre-agreed condition rather than an act of personal political volition.
