Imo State Police Command

The Imo State Police Command has launched an aggressive investigation and a widespread manhunt following the gruesome murder of a female nursing student, Wendy Achumba, inside her private off-campus residence in Umuadara, Umulogho, within the Obowo Local Government Area of the state.

The tragic incident has thrown the local academic community into mourning and sparked severe tensions among area residents.

The deceased, an indigene of Ngwa in Abia State, was a dedicated student at the College of Nursing, Umulogho.

Local institutional sources revealed that Achumba had recently completed her formal Midwifery academic programme and was actively undertaking a specialized Post Basic nursing course before her life was violently cut short by unknown attackers.

According to terrified community residents, her lifeless body was discovered inside her room on Thursday afternoon with her throat completely slit by her attackers.

The horrifying discovery quickly drew an aggrieved crowd of local youths who blocked initial efforts by emergency responders to evacuate the remains, demanding swift administrative action over the rising insecurity in the student-dominated neighborhood.

Confirming the security breach to media panels on Friday morning, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the state tactical units responded swiftly to the distress calls to bring the volatile situation under control.

"The body has since been recovered and deposited in the morgue, while investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her death and apprehend those responsible," Okoye stated.

The Divisional Police Officer for the Obowo Division led an on-the-spot evaluation of the crime scene to gather forensic evidence.

Meanwhile, the state Police Command has issued an urgent appeal to both the management of the institution, the student union body, and the host community residents to remain calm and law-abiding, guaranteeing that no stones will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators of the heinous act to judicial justice.
