Mohbad DNA Test: Legal Team Raises Alarm Over Selected Laboratories’ Technical Capacity
The quest for a credible paternity test for Liam Aloba, the son of late singer Mohbad, has hit a fresh hurdle.
Legal representatives for the singer's father, Joseph Aloba, have raised concerns that two of the three laboratories selected by the court may lack the capacity to handle the required analysis.
According to a statement by the family's counsel, Oladayo Ogungbe, inquiries made to Alpha Biolabs (UK) and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited (UK) revealed that the facilities do not conduct post-mortem DNA testing involving tissue extraction from embalmed remains.
“The responses received from Alpha Biolabs and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited indicated that they do not conduct post-mortem DNA testing involving embalmed bodies,” the statement read.
This revelation follows a February 24, 2026, court order mandating that the test be conducted across three international facilities to ensure maximum transparency.
Ogungbe clarified that his client only nominated one laboratory—the DNA Diagnostics Centre in Ohio, USA—and dismissed claims that the family intentionally selected unqualified facilities.
An affidavit of facts has been filed before the Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu to address the development.
Mohbad’s death in September 2023 remains a subject of intense legal and public scrutiny, with the paternity of young Liam being a central point of contention in ongoing disputes over the late Afrobeats star's estate.
