Global music icon Bukola Elemide, professionally known as Aṣa, has announced the passing of her mother in a deeply emotional tribute shared on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
The award-winning singer-songwriter described her mother as her "queen" and "biggest fan," revealing that her life was cut short by a sudden medical emergency.
Taking to Instagram to share the news with her millions of followers, Aṣa explained that a brain tumour appeared without warning, leading to the untimely death of the woman who inspired much of her journey.
“A sudden brain tumour came without warning and took you too soon. Your strength, your love, your spirit will remain with me forever. Rest now, Mum,” the singer wrote.
Aṣa fondly recalled her mother’s "quiet swag," dry sense of humour, and unwavering support, noting that despite not being musical herself, her mother sang along to every one of Aṣa's songs "with her whole heart."
The news has sparked a massive outpouring of condolences from the global entertainment industry, with fellow artists and fans offering prayers for the "Jailer" singer.
While funeral arrangements have not yet been made public, the loss marks a somber moment for the artist whose work has always been deeply rooted in themes of family and identity.
