The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended three suspects, including a prominent local pastor and a 46-year-old man, in connection with the unlawful possession and sale of suspected human body parts.
The arrests took place in the Agugu area of Ibadan during a proactive "stop-and-search" operation aimed at curbing ritual-related crimes in the state.
According to an official statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, a patrol team intercepted an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle in the Adekile neighborhood.
Upon searching the rider, Oyategbe Joseph, officers discovered a package containing flesh suspected to be human intestines.
Following his arrest, Joseph confessed to obtaining the organs from an unidentified source in Oritaperin and named his clients.
This led to the swift arrest of Alfa Onaolapo Taiwo (46) and Pastor Ayodele Taiwo (55), both of whom allegedly admitted to purchasing the items.
“The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation. All suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion,” the statement confirmed.
The discovery has heightened tensions in Ibadan, coming just days after the lifeless body of a woman was found in a drainage channel along Iwo Road with visible marks of violence.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving the trade of human remains to the nearest authorities.
