Nollywood Actress Angela Okorie Arrested, Flown to Abuja Over Cybercrime Case Involving Mercy Johnson

Nollywood actresses Mercy Johnson Angela Okorie cyber bullying arrest police Nigeria controversy

A major controversy has erupted in Nollywood following reports that actress Mercy Johnson orchestrated the arrest of her colleague, Angela Okorie, for alleged cyberbullying. According to journalist and BON Awards founder Seun Oloketuyi, Okorie was arrested at her Lagos residence on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, by operatives from the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Center in Abuja.

Oloketuyi disclosed that Okorie spent the night at the Yaba Police Station in Lagos before being flown to Abuja early Wednesday to face court proceedings. "She was put on 6am flight to Abuja this morning to face court proceedings connected to cybercrime matter involving Mercy Johnson," he wrote on Instagram.

This development comes exactly one week after Mercy Johnson issued a stern warning on social media, declaring that cyberbullying her and her family would not be "business as usual" in 2026. The arrest suggests the actress is following through on her threat to take legal action against online harassment.

The specifics of the alleged cyberbullying posts have not been made public, but the case highlights the growing trend of Nigerian celebrities using legal avenues to combat online abuse. The police's involvement indicates the allegations are being treated seriously under Nigeria's cybercrime laws.

Neither actress has made an official public statement since news of the arrest broke.
