I courageous tricycle operator has lost his life in Awka, Anambra State, after being swept away by torrential floodwaters while attempting to rescue a helpless pedestrian.
The incident occurred during a heavy downpour and thunderstorm at Miracle Junction along Ifite Road. Eyewitnesses reported that a woman trapped in the fast-flowing flood missed her footing and began crying for help.
The commercial tricycle operator, in his 40s, stepped into the water to rescue her, but both were swept into a flood channel.
While the operator's lifeless body was recovered near Book Foundation on Tuesday morning, search operations continue for the missing woman as state authorities assess drainage channel blockages.
