Ligue 1: Ayase Ueda Off the Bench to Send Davide Ancelotti’s Lille Top of the Table

Japanese international striker Ayase Ueda came off the bench to score a 73rd-minute winner, firing Davide Ancelotti’s Lille to the top of the Ligue 1 standings with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Toulouse.

Signed from Feyenoord in the summer after ending the Eredivisie campaign as top scorer, Ueda replaced veteran striker Olivier Giroud in the second half to break the deadlock in a tense match.

Toulouse had earlier hit the crossbar through Casseres and seen a penalty appeal overturned by VAR.

Ueda’s decisive strike brings Lille’s tally to seven points from three matches, placing the French side temporarily at the summit of Ligue 1.
