The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has condemned the brutal assault of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, describing the incident as “disturbing” and completely unacceptable.
The victim, identified as Ms. Jennifer Elobor, was allegedly stripped naked and assaulted by operatives of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, a local security outfit in the state. A disturbing video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, sparking nationwide outrage and demands for justice.

In a statement issued in Awka, Dr. Soludo expressed deep concern over the incident, saying such an act does not reflect the values of the state or the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
“I have seen the viral video of the sad incident reported to have happened in Oba, involving men of Agunechemba security formation and a female corps member serving in Anambra State. There is no justification whatsoever for such an ugly and humiliating abuse,” the governor’s wife stated.

She further noted that Anambra is known for hospitality and humane values, stressing her that the actions of the vigilante group not only violated human dignity but also tarnished the state’s image.
“There are always rules of engagement in such situations, and they must prioritize dignity, civility, and respect,” she added. “I appeal to the authorities already looking into this case to take critical measures, not just to entrench justice, but to ensure such a disturbing act never happens again. Anambra’s image is priceless, and we must guard it jealously.”
Following the outrage, the Anambra State Government confirmed that the vigilante operatives involved in the assault have been arrested and will face disciplinary and legal action.
The incident has reignited debates about the need for stricter regulations and monitoring of local security formations in Nigeria.
