The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned in strong terms the assault on Ms. Jennifer Elobor, a female corps member serving in Anambra State, describing it as “degrading, inhumane, and unconstitutional.”
The incident, which occurred in Oba, Idemili South LGA, went viral after a video surfaced showing the NYSC member being stripped and beaten by operatives of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, also known as Operation Udo Ga-Achi.

According to reports, the Anambra State Government immediately ordered the arrest of the perpetrators following public outrage. Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, confirmed that the operatives have been suspended and placed under investigation. He added that depending on the outcome, they may face prosecution or disciplinary measures.
The Anambra State Police Command also condemned the attack, labeling it “very, very wrong,” and assured that the force remains committed to ensuring justice is served.

In its statement, the NBA acknowledged the swift response by the state government but emphasized that more must be done to restore confidence in justice.
“Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done,” the association declared, urging the authorities to ensure diligent prosecution of the suspects.
The NBA further called for reforms in the state’s security architecture, including comprehensive training and rights-based reorientation of security operatives to prevent similar abuses. Its Anambra branches and the National Litigation Committee pledged to closely monitor the case to ensure accountability.
The incident has sparked conversations about the regulation of vigilante groups across Nigeria, with many Nigerians insisting on stronger oversight to prevent human rights violations.
