Oyo Police Uncover Interstate Child-Trafficking Ring, Rescue 17 Children in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has uncovered an interstate child-stealing and human trafficking syndicate, rescuing 17 children and arresting seven suspects across Oyo, Ogun, and Delta states.

Presenting the command's breakthrough at Eleyele Headquarters in Ibadan, Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga disclosed that the investigation originated from an August petition before tracking a wider criminal network.

The key breakdown occurred after the arrest of Adejoke Popoola (alias Orente Alagbo), who confessed to abducting over 15 children from social and religious gatherings, including a three-year-old taken during a masquerade festival in Oyo Town.

Subsequent raids in Mowe, Ogun State, and Agbor, Delta State, led to further child rescues and the arrest of suspects, alongside a herbalist and an Alfa accused of purchasing the remains of deceased victims for ritual practices.

"What commenced as an investigation into a petition has, through painstaking investigative work, uncovered a wider network extending beyond Oyo State, resulting in the rescue of 17 children." — CP Abimbola Olugbenga, Oyo State Police Command
