Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a formal letter before action demanding N10 billion in damages from the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), over alleged defamatory statements linking him to violence in Southern Kaduna.
In a September 7 letter prepared by his solicitors, The Chambers of Ubong Akpan, El-Rufai faulted Musa's comments during an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today.
The solicitors stated that the minister recklessly accused El-Rufai of planning killings, paying bandits, and demolishing properties over personal disputes.
Giving the Defence Minister a seven-day deadline, El-Rufai’s team demanded a full retraction, a public apology across national newspapers and television broadcasts, and an undertaking not to repeat the allegations, warning that failure to comply would result in immediate legal action.
"The statements portrayed our client as a criminal, a murderer, and a sponsor of banditry, and were made recklessly by a sitting minister with access to official security intelligence." — The Chambers of Ubong Akpan
