EbonyLife CEO and media mogul Mo Abudu has voiced her firm stance on respect, age hierarchy, and workplace etiquette, declaring that she will not tolerate being casually addressed by her first name by younger individuals.
Speaking during an appearance on Toke Makinwa’s talk show, Toke Moments, Abudu explained that her traditional upbringing in Ondo State by her grandmother heavily shaped her views on formal respect.
Her comments touch on a broader corporate debate across Nigeria regarding whether junior employees should address senior executives by first name—a conversation reignited after UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu recently corrected a trainee for calling him "Tony."
Additionally, Abudu pointed out double standards facing corporate female leaders, noting that assertive businesswomen are often labeled "sharks," whereas men exhibiting the exact same ambition are commended.
