Illegal Military Recruitment Scheme Uncovered: Joint Operation Arrests 12 in Akwa Ibom



A joint taskforce comprising the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Army, and the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered an unauthorized recruitment and training scheme operating under the name "Nigeria Coast Guard Academy."


The operation occurred on Monday, August 31, 2026, when personnel from NNS Jubilee, 2 Brigade, 6 Battalion, and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) raided the Merchant Seaman Academy in Uwa West, Essien Udim LGA.

Security forces arrested 12 individuals, including six organizers, five illegal recruits, and a cadet. 


Director of Naval Information Captain Abiodun Folorunsho confirmed that the academy was operating illegally without statutory approval. 


The Navy warned job seekers to verify all military, security, and maritime recruitment offers through recognized government channels before submitting personal details or funds.
