Central Nepal and parts of Tibet are facing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis following sudden, massive flash floods and landslides triggered along the Himalayan border region.
Initial seismic reports misidentified the event as a magnitude 5.2 earthquake, but analysis by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and mountain research institutes confirmed the disaster was caused by a massive glacial rock and ice collapse.
