President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies to launch an immediate, coordinated operation following a mass abduction in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Gunmen raided several rural communities and attacked worshippers during Friday prayers at a mosque in Kpenya village, kidnapping between 60 and 80 residents and leaving several injured.
In a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu condemned the attack, describing the perpetrators as "enemies of peace and humanity" who will be brought to justice.
He instructed the Armed Forces, Police Force, and Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure all captives are accounted for and ordered Service Chiefs to provide regular updates until every victim is safely returned.
"Those who carried out this cowardly attack on defenceless Nigerians are enemies of peace and enemies of humanity, who will not go scot-free... Terror will not cow Nigeria.
We will defend our people, protect our communities, and uphold the sanctity of human life." — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
