The Jigawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly rejected the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term by a group of 500 Islamic scholars in Dutse, describing the move as contrary to Islamic teachings and an attempt to politicize religious authority.
In a statement signed by ADC Youth Ambassador (North) and Jigawa Deputy Chairman, Ambassador Nuraddeen Suleiman Jidawa, the party urged clerics to maintain neutrality rather than presenting partisan support as a religious consensus.
The opposition party also disputed claims in the scholars' communiqué regarding project ownership—noting that the Kano-Maradi railway was awarded under former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021—and rejected assertions that security has significantly improved in the North-West, pointing to recent mass abductions and terrorist attacks.
