The South African government has formally dismissed reports alleging that award-winning Nigerian singer Ayra Starr and members of her touring team were denied entry visas into the country.
Speaking in an interview with *Punch*, South Africa’s Consul-General to Nigeria, Prof. Bobby Moroe, confirmed that national immigration authorities have no official record of any visa application or rejection tied to the singer or her entourage.
Moroe urged individuals making the claims to provide the full names and application reference numbers of the affected team members so the immigration department can verify the matter transparently.

The clarification follows recent calls by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, who urged the Federal Government to apply visa reciprocity measures against South African entertainers if the allegations were verified.
Reports had previously circulated that Ayra Starr and her team were denied visas in February 2024 ahead of planned shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The singer has yet to respond to the demand for application reference numbers.
