Financial Audit: EFCC and ICPC Probe N12bn NFF Intervention Fund for National Teams

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have launched a joint investigation into the utilization of the N12 billion Federal Government intervention fund provided to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The development was revealed in an official response (Reference: NFF/LEG/10/1/879) signed by Onoja Joshua, Esq., on behalf of the NFF General Secretary, declining a Freedom of Information (FOI) request for expenditure records.

The federation stated that all relevant financial documentation had been turned over to the anti-corruption bodies currently conducting the inquiry.

The N12 billion allocation was approved by President Bola Tinubu in January 2024 to clear long-standing arrears, including 15 months of coaching salaries, players' allowances, and national team execution funds. Concurrently, the Senate Committee on Sports has issued a summons to officials of the NFF and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for an emergency session to address operational performance and financial management.

"It is my instruction to inform you that the subject matter of the request under the Freedom of Information Act is the subject of investigations by the EFCC and ICPC." — Onoja Joshua, Esq., NFF Legal Representative
