N480bn Ogun Meth Lab: NDLEA Opposes Bail for 10 Defendants Over Flight Risk

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has formally opposed a bail application filed by 10 defendants linked to an alleged clandestine methamphetamine laboratory discovered in Iloti Village, Ogun State.

Appearing before Justice Akintayo Aluko at the Federal High Court in Lagos, defence counsel Benson Ndakara requested bail on fundamental rights grounds, arguing that his clients—who claimed they intended to run a poultry, piggery, and wine business—were presumed innocent and required specialized medical attention.

Countering the application, NDLEA prosecutor Buhari Abdullahi argued that the defendants, including three Mexican nationals and a dual-citizen financier, posed a severe flight risk due to the transnational nature of the alleged organized network.

The prosecution noted that trial had already commenced before Justice Musa Kakaki, with the agency presenting forensic evidence and recovered precursors, including Propyl-2-Propanone.

Following arguments from both legal teams, Justice Aluko adjourned the ruling on the bail application until September 2, 2026.

"If at all that is true, it has not been established that it was of the nature that the medical facility at the correctional centre could not take care of." — Buhari Abdullahi, NDLEA Prosecutor
