Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has declared that the Nigerian judiciary should be restricted from deciding election winners, arguing that judicial intervention distorts the true democratic intent of voters.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Sunrise Daily, Falana expressed doubt regarding the judiciary's readiness to manage the disputes likely to emerge from the 2027 general elections.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), media entities, and political stakeholders to focus on enforcing transparent voting and preventing fraudulent results.
By ensuring credible electoral processes at polling units, Falana noted that the need for post-election litigation and reliance on legal technicalities by election tribunals and appellate courts can be minimized.
