The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has debunked a viral deepfake video attempting to show the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, making partisan political endorsements.
In a formal statement released on Thursday via its official X handle, the military high command confirmed that the video was artificially generated using AI manipulation to deceive the public and bring the Armed Forces into disrepute.
Reaffirming its constitutional mandate, the DHQ reiterated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain strictly professional, apolitical, and non-partisan.
The military condemned those responsible for producing and sharing the manipulated media, warning creators and social media users to desist immediately and rely solely on verified DHQ channels.
"The video is a product of Artificial Intelligence-generated manipulation, apparently designed to deceive and mislead the public... the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution." — Defence Headquarters Statement
