Former Kogi West lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the administration's handling of the fuel subsidy removal and its financial allocation to state governors.
In a statement posted on social media, Melaye alleged that the Federal Government redirected funds saved from the fuel subsidy removal directly to state governors in exchange for political backing ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He argued that the strategy will fail to yield political results, asserting that state executives will not be able to guarantee the President's re-election when citizens hold the administration accountable for rising living costs.
Melaye's comments come amid renewed political debate over economic policies following commitments by opposition figures regarding future energy subsidies.
